Texas y Wu-Tang Clan, grupo norteamericano de hip-hop, colaboran de nuevo en ‘Hi’, primer single adelanto del noveno álbum de estudio de la banda escocesa, de igual título. Lo presentan con el siguiente videoclip:
En ‘Hi’, Sharleen Spiteri flexiona su voz sobre una pista de guitarra al estilo Ennio Morricone mientras que RZA y Ghostface Killah de Wu-Tang Clan rapean encima de todo ello, en un tema pegadizo y cercano a otros hits de Texas de finales de los años 90. El vídeo musical que lo acompaña está dirigido por Fenn O’Meally y protagonizado por el actor británico Kadeem Ramsay (visto recientemente en Top Boy y Small Axe).
No es la primera vez que ambas bandas colaboran. En 1998, Wu-Tang Clan remezclaron el clásico ‘Say What You Want’ de Texas, presentándolo juntos ese mismo año en los premios Brit Awards. También el año pasado, Sharleen se reunió con RZA en Glasgow durante el rodaje y filmación de un documental para recordar ese remix y de ahí surgió este nuevo tema.
El nuevo y noveno disco de estudio de Texas, titulado igualmente «Hi», será lanzado en 2021 vía BMG pero aún no se ha anunciado una fecha concreta de publicación. Sería el sucesor de «Jump On Board» (2017).
Asimismo, es la primera canción del colectivo estadounidense Wu-Tang Clan en tres años («The saga continues», 2017), con la participación activa de dos de sus componentes, RZA y Ghostface Killah. Son considerados una de las grandes influencias del hip hop, con álbumes emblemáticos como «Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)» (1993).
Texas, grupo británico de pop rock alternativo, debe su nombre a la influencia que tuvo en ellos la BSO de la película «Paris,Texas»(1985). Iniciaron su carrera en 1989 con su álbum debut «Southside», que incluía el éxito ‘I Don’t Want a Lover’. Desde entonces, ha despachado más de 35 millones de copias en su carrera, entre los que cabe destacar «White on Blonde» (1997) y «The hush»(1999), con otros singles clásicos de su producción como ‘Black Eyed Boy’, ‘In our lifetime’ o ‘Summer son’. La gira de 30º aniversario de la banda se aplazó al otoño del año que viene, con varias fechas en España para septiembre 2021: Barcelona (25), Burgos (26), Madrid (28) y Bilbao (29).
