El grupo británico Coldplay presenta ‘Higher power’ con el siguiente vídeo «Extraterrestrial Transmission» en conexión con la Estación Espacial Internacional, en el que es el primer single de su noveno álbum de estudio.
‘Higher power’ ha sido producida por el compositor sueco Max Martin contando con la colaboración de Oscar Holter y Bill Rahko, en un tema que se aleja radicalmente del sonido de su anterior disco «Everyday Life» (2019). Según el comunicado «comenzó en un teclado pequeño en un lavabo a principios de 2020» y habla de «tratar de encontrar al astronauta que todos llevamos dentro, a la persona que puede hacer cosas increíbles».
El estreno de la canción fue a través de un enlace por video chat con el astronauta francés de la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA) Thomas Pesquet (quien se encuentra actualmente comandando una misión), a bordo de la Estación Espacial Internacional (ISS) y que pudo seguirse en YouTube, incluyendo hologramas alienígenas danzantes. El evento se produjo tras una conversación en la que se abordaron temas como las similitudes entre la vida durante las giras y la vida en la ESA, la fragilidad del planeta Tierra y si Pesquet ha visto algún extraterrestre.
El tema estará incluido en el próximo trabajo discográfico (cuyo título se rumorea será «Music of the Spheres», previsto de publicar en próximos meses) y será presentado también en el programa «American Idol» este 9 de mayo y también el 11 en los premios «Brit Awards 2021». Además, Coldplay participan el próximo 22 de este mismo mes en el «Festival de Glastonbury 2021» (aunque esta edición será virtual).
